They carry the weight of the roofing system and multiple floors and keep the foundations from shifting. All exterior walls, as are those surrounding stairwells and chimneys, are naturally supporting. Removing or altering these walls without inserting alternative supporting measures – i.e. RSJ installations – will lead to major structural issues. These could be costly to repair or lead to more serious consequences, such as a full or partial collapse.
